Audi RS4 - Mmm, Supercharged 535-hp from MTM Tuning

Wow is all one can say when reading about MTM's monsterous creation of a supercharged 2007 Audi RS 4. Presented in teh AudiWorld article is the MTM Tuning's MTM RS4 Clubsport. And yes, the 420-hp FSI engine is boosted to a magnificent 535-hp.

MTM RS4 Clubsport 2007 Audi RS 4

What's even sicker? Well, apparently the same supercharger may be compatible with the Audi R8, since the engines are nearly identical.

Here are a couple of excerpts:

The centerpiece of the MTM RS4 Clubsport package is the liquid-to-air intercooled, Lysolm-type, belt driven supercharger that resides directly underneath the carbon fiber bulge on the hood and feeds the car with 0.45 bar (6.5 psi) of fresh air. This cleverly designed package sits smack dab between the cylinder heads within the “V” of Audi’s 4.2 liter V8 and boosts power levels to a very impressive 535 horsepower and 428 ft-lbs of torque. The engine internals and compression ratio remains 100% stock. A special carbon fiber vent on the hood gives extra clearance to the supercharger and helps keep underhood temperatures checked. The blower assembly completely replaces the stock variable length intake manifold.....

.....“Power is nothing without control”. This cliché statement holds especially true with MTM’s RS4. Simply adding more power to a stock RS4 would result in a less rounded vehicle, perhaps not as effective overall as what originally rolled off the line at quattro GmbH. The remainder of the modifications were therefore designed to make maximum use of the additional power produced by the supercharger. Weight saving measures bring the curb weight of the Clubsport down to a claimed 1660 kg (3650 lbs). This is about 350 lbs less than a US-spec RS4 even while counting larger brakes and additional safety features.....

With the initial background out of the way the obvious question is how does it drive? Absolutely brilliantly. MTM has done a wonderful job extracting more performance from the already well-rounded RS4 without diminishing the core attributes which make the car so special. Firing up the car, the 4.2-liter FSI V8 purrs at a very smooth idle just like a stock RS4. We do detect a hint of something a few octaves deeper and more menacing however. The unmistakable V8 burble will make a muscle car fan’s heart melt.....

.....The Clubsport is a little more extreme than a stock RS4 when restrained to commuter duty and limited to a sane pace (meaning louder, harder, edgier), but certainly livable. The full-back MTM exhaust system lets out a mean grumble with very little accompanying drone. The rear exhaust flap is still fully operational via either the dash mounted “S” button or a slick remote control which resembles a key fob. The difference between the normal and S modes, in terms of sound volume, is considerably greater than stock. The tone transforms from viscous to scary at the push of a button. Yes, we do believe that this car will actually scare women and children. The sound is aggressive and exotic - and beautiful.
