Audi Q7: The Premium, S-Line, with 4.2 FSI engine

Here is hands-on experience with the 2007 Audi Q7 by one of the journalists over at Motor Trend admiring their recent "acquisition" of the 2007 Audi Q7. Of course, this was not any Audi Q7 -- but it had the extras that include the premium package, s-line package and the 4.2L V8 FSI engine.

Audi Q7 4.2 FSI S-line Premium Package

Counting their lucky stars, makes for an interesting review.

Here are a few excerpts:

Last weekend was my first in my Q7 (the first of many to come, I should hasten to add). The timing was ideal, as I'd recently put more than 600 miles on another of our long-term luxo 'utes, the Mercedes-Benz GL450 (see my previous blog post). Though both German, big (the Benz seats seven, the Audi six), and expensive (our GL stickers for just over $72K, the Q7 rings up at $63,270 with options), the two rigs radiate vastly different personalities. The GL is the four-wheeled equivalent of a Mediterranean estate in Bel Air: regal, timelessly elegant, brimming with class and status that no one can fail to recognize. The Q7, in contrast, is a Mid-Century modern in the Hollywood Hills. Glass, brushed aluminum, black leather, cockpit graphics clearly conceived with chic in mind (even the animated icon for the climate-control fan whirls with designer flair). The Audi is deliberately cool, urbane, even sexy. A far edgier piece than the broad-appeal Benz, it's clearly not for everyone.....

.....Will the Q7's sex appeal linger? Will its techno-wonders bear up? Will unforeseen faults surface? Stay tuned. In the coming months I plan to rack up lots of miles in the Q7, so more updates and travel notes are forthcoming (if those cigars show up, you might even hear the thoughts of a few other staffers, too). Meantime, I'm headed down to the company garage. My Q7 is parked there, and I want to look at it. Besides, it's time to feed Leatherface. He's the saltwater crocodile I keep near the driver's door.
